With over 350 species of resident and migratory birds, the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve features some of the best birds of Belize.

Our early morning Bird Watching tour will take you around our common grounds at the lodge where our professional naturalist guides, who are highly trained and knowledgeable birders, will assist you in spotting many of the tropical avian species that abound in western Belize.

The varied topography and vegetation of her Central American home makes Belize abundantly rich in a variety of ecosystems that provide sustainable habitats for an enormous number of local and migratory bird species.

Birds of Belize that you will be able to see on this walk:

  • The Keel-billed Toucan
  • The gentle “hoot-hoot” of the Lesson’s Motmot pay homage to Kinich Ahau, the Mayan sun God
  • Rufous-tailed Hummingbird
  • Pale-billed Woodpecker
  • Gartered Trogon
  • Russet-Naped Wood-Rail
  • Squirrel Cuckoo
  • Ferruginous Pygmy Owl
  • and a host of parrot species are just a few of the exotic birds awaiting you.

Daily guided bird watching tours are also offered to different nature reserves around Belize’s Cayo District:

  • Laguna Aguacate, a freshwater lagoon in the Spanish Lookout area, is home to a wide variety of water birds. The surrounding farmlands provide excellent habitat for several species of raptors.
  • The Blue Hole National Park
  • Mountain Pine Ridge and Chiquibul Forest Reserves, great for observing the mighty raptors and the beautiful scarlet macaws respectively
  • Black Rock Canyon
  • The Caracol Archaelogy Reserve – you can observe the Keel-billed Motmot, a globally vulnerable scecies here
